We want to build awareness (nationally and internationally) of the qualities and diversity of Mozambican honey, and so help members sell more and grow their businesses.
The Council has an important role in representing the views, ideas, priorities of the private sector to Government.
Equally, the Council has an important role in providing information and/or signposting to new beekeepers and investors

Why join the National Apiculture Association Council of Mozambique?
Apiculture is long-established in Mozambique, and is now enjoying a period of rapid growth, but still the industry is far below its potential in scale and impact. The Apiculture Council of Mozambique is being established to help scale up the apiculture industry and create opportunities for everyone involved to get more from their activities. Whether you are a part-time beekeeping enthusiast or a member of a growing association of beekeepers or the representative of a commercial business, the Council offers a range of benefits and opportunities.
Helping build a prosperous apiculture industry
The mission and purpose of the Council is to help promote high standards in all aspects of apiculture in Mozambique. Our country has the potential to be one of the biggest producers of high-quality honey in Africa. The Council will help beekeepers, equipment suppliers, and honey companies realize that potential. At the most general level, therefore, the reason to join the Council is to participate in building a prosperous and sustainable apiculture industry in Mozambique.
Having your voice heard by the Government
Having your voice heard by the Government
- Regulations covering all aspects of Apiculture
- An organic standard for honey and beekeeping
- An updated Norm for honey
It is essential that the views and technical knowledge of people involved in all aspects of apiculture are brought into the development of these important features of a professional apiculture industry. The Council will be able to canvas the views of its members and share these views with Government. The Council will call on members at different times to participate in discussions, workshops, and other meetings with Government. The more members we have, the more seriously the Government will take the Council.
Access to information
The Council will gather, collate, and make available to its members, a growing body of materials to support members in their activities. This information will include technical guides to all aspects of beekeeping, fact sheets on specific matters such as pests, information about global and regional trade trends (prices, volumes etc), guidance on exporting honey to different regions, and much more. Some general information will be available on the Council’s website, but much more will be restricted to members only.
Access to services
The Council will be well-placed to attract support from donors and development institutions wanting to help expand apiculture. The Council will actively seek funds to support training and technical support of beekeepers and others involved in apiculture in different ways. Members can benefit in several ways:
- Members who are trainers or technical advisors/consultants will have the opportunity to provide training and other services within projects managed by the Council
- Members will be prioritized over non-members for participation in training and other support activities
The Council may also launch its own programme of training and technical support on a cost-recovery basis. Members will be offered discounted prices for participation in such a programme.
Promoting your business
Members of the Council have many opportunities to promote their products or services, including:
- Listing and profile on the website – with links to members’ own website and/or social media presence
- Free participation in trade shows and other events organised by the Council (non-members will pay for space)
- Sharing stories for the Council’s newsletter and other promotional material
Working with Government
The Government of Mozambique’s core role in creating an enabling environment in which beekeeping and honey enterprises can flourish, will be absolutely critical if the vision of Mozambique becoming a leading African producer (and exporter) of honey is to be realized. A close and sustained working relationship between the Council and Government is essential in achieving the shared ambition of expanding the scope and scale of the industry.
Drawing inspiration from other countries in Africa, we are working with the Government to create a permanent Consultative Committee bringing together industry and Government representatives. The Consultative Committee will help ensure regular transparent and constructive communication and to create opportunities for collaboration.
One such opportunity is the annual celebration of beekeeping and the honey/bee products industry centred on the World Bee Day.
