Membership

The National Apiculture Association Council of Mozambique has the following categories of members:

Individual Members:

Individual membership is open to any person actively involved in apiculture. To qualify for individual membership, one or more of the following criteria must apply:

  • You are a part-time beekeeper with your own beehives and the honey you harvest is for consumption only, not for sale.
  • You are a part-time beekeeper with your own beehives and the honey you harvest is both for consumption and sale, but you do not own (individually or with others) a commercially registered business.
  • You are a trainer/consultant working in apiculture as the main focus of your work.
  • You are a researcher/scientist specialising in apiculture as the main focus of your work.

The Council welcomes applications for Individual membership from people whose company or association is also a member. However, the Council reserves the right to reject an application for Individual Membership if it is known that the applicant is engaged in fully commercial apiculture business activities, but the applicant’s company is not a Corporate Member.

If you are an individual but you do not meet any of the criteria above, but you are interested in learning more about apiculture in general or specifically in Mozambique, you are welcome to apply to be an Associate Member.

Association / Co-operative Membership

Association Membership is open to any established apiculture association. To qualify for Association Membership, the following criteria must apply:

  • You represent an Association that has 10 or more members.
  • Collectively, the members of the Association have 50 or more beehives.
  • The Association is functioning – at least half of all members are producing honey for personal consumption or sale.

If you and your Association or Co-operative meet these criteria, and you wish to apply, please download and complete the application form and return it to the email address stated on the form.

Corporate Membership

Corporate membership is open to any registered commercial entity actively involved in apiculture. To qualify for Corporate membership, one or more of the following criteria must apply:

  • You represent a registered company involved in commercial beekeeping for production and sale of honey and other bee products.
  • You represent a registered company involved in the commercialization of bee products but not in production.
  • You represent a registered company involved in providing pollination services and other technical support related to apiculture.
  • You represent a registered company involved in the production and/or distribution and sale of apiculture inputs (beehives, protective clothing, processing

Associate Membership

Associate membership is open to individuals in their own capacity or as representatives of companies or organizations. To be eligible for Associate Membership, one or more of the following criteria must apply (please tick ALL boxes that apply to you):

  • You represent an NGO that is active in promoting beekeeping livelihoods and providing technical support to beekeepers.
  • You represent a funding organization that is currently or has in the past funded projects involving support of beekeepers, their associations, or the bee products value chain.
  • You represent a registered Company that buys and sells honey from Mozambican honey companies and/or beekeepers
  • You are a researcher focusing on issues in which apiculture is relevant (eg biodiversity conservation, crop pollination, etc)

Association and Co-operative members

Associacao XYZ, Inharime

The Association was established in 2018 and has 32 active members who collectively own 150 beehives. Members produce and sell honey individually but use facilities of the Association in their processing and packing. Contact:

Corporate Members

Mozambique Honey Company, Chimoio, Manica Province

MHC was established in 2011 and currently packs and sells 24,000Kg of honey in the national market. MHC buys honey from a network of more than 1,000 smallholder beekeepers mostly in Manica Province. MHC’s brands include ‘Mel de Chimanimani’ (conservation area honey that generates additional benefit for beekeepers) and ‘Ouro de Floresta’. MHC also supplies produces Tropigalia’s ‘Gourmet’ brand of honey. Contacts:
